Ken Bradshaw is one of only a few professional surf coaches with proven multiple world champion experience. In addition to having traveled the world coaching surfing at all the world tour locations, being based in Hawaii, Ken has a particularly intimate understanding the North Shore Oahu surf conditions as well as the strategy and equipment needed to excel as a professional surfer in the Islands.

My goal as a professional surf coach is simple: to help you become the best surfer possible.

ken bradshaw professional surfing coachSurfing doesn’t need to be as complicated as many say it’s become. I understand there are constant small adjustments which requires a deep understanding of tendencies and habits. Even the best of surfers need another set of eyes from time to time.

I provide those open invaluable eyes through a broad range of teaching specialties including one-to-one teaching, group instruction, and video analysis – which means I am able to custom-tailor my surf coaching and instructing philosophy for each of my clients.

As a professional surfing coach, Ken Bradshaw has over the years coached professional surfing careers, sponsored and mentored several young as well as established professional surfers such as Anthony Petruso, Ty McMillin, Hamish Campbell, Love Hodel, Noah Johnson and earlier the Ho brothers as well as the years of Mark Liddell and Buttons Kaluhiokalani.

Ken Bradshaw’s proudest professional surf coaching accomplishment to date is Layne Beachley, who became the Women’s ASP World Champion in 1998, and won the title again in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2006. Besides managing and coaching Layne’s career for many years he also shaped all her surfboards, which she rode exclusively for many years.
Other professional surfers who rode Ken’s boards on the ASP-WCT (Association of Surfing Professionals, and World Championship Tour) were Sunny Garcia and John Shomooku.

Our professional surf-coaching program will improve confidence in your ability, wave knowledge, help you to improve faster and reach your personal goals in surfing.

Main topics addressed in Professional Surf Coach Programs include:

  • Surf Coach Program – Equipment Evaluation
Ensure the boards you are riding are optimal for your weight, ability, conditions and surfing style. Having the best equipment possible is cornerstone to maximizing the performance surfing potential and confidence is all conditions. Working with Ken Bradshaw as your professional surf coach, who over the course of 35 years shaping surfboards, has developed an acute understanding and ability to help fine tune board quivers, you can be confident your equipment is optimal for your distinct surfing style and the conditions.
  • Surf Coach Program – Body Positioning and Technique
Proper body positioning and technique may be the most important skill you learn working with Ken Bradshaw as your surf coach. If you have a good basic surfing foundation the rest will come much easier for you. Advanced maneuvers will come more naturally when you are consistently implementing the basic body positioning and technique correctly.
  • Surf Coach Program – Ocean Knowledge
Reading waves is also a basic skill some people never get down. You will learn about how different swell directions can make waves break differently along the same reef and how to find the best waves in your session.
  • Surf Coach Program – Surf Contest Strategy
As a competitor you will be scored by a panel of judges. The role of a judge in a surfing contest is to decide which surfer performs the closest to the “Judging Criteria” in any heat. The fundamental importance of the criteria is that each judge understands what he is looking for from the surfers. At it most basic element contest strategy is simply designed for your surfing performance to coinside with the judging criteria of the particular heat.

For our Professional Surf Coach program we suggest at very least 3 coaching sessions in order to thoroughly evaluate and implement the new strategy in a sustainable regiment.
