Surfing wave size for all seasons
Nov – Jan:
The peak of winter, this time of year is what made the north shore famous and is why thousands of surfers flock to the north shore each year. These are historically the biggest few months all year. If you are a beginner there are smaller inside spots that you will be able to surf safely.
Feb-march:
There is still plenty of swell, but starts to settle down as we transition to spring
April- June:
Spring time waves are smaller and it is usually very consistent till mid June.
July- August:
The 2 smallest months on the north shore there are still small waves at select reefs that are absolutely perfect for beginning surfers.
Sep-Oct:
Swell starts rolling in to the north shore in September this time of year is great to ease in to the north shore winter as swells tend to be not as powerful as the winter months and the yearly migration from the surfing world has not yet started.
Oahu is an Island that truly has waves all year. From North and West shores in winter to the Perfect summer swells that hit the South shore in summer. With Ken Bradshaw as your Hawaiian surfing guide, you can be sure you are to the best spot to suit your ability on any give day!

Our Sunset Beach Oahu Vacation Rental Reviews:
What a great place to stay!

Thank you so much Amanda, Ken and Ron! And a special thank you to Amanda for answering all of my questions and email in such a timely matter. Your little studio was perfect for my fiance and I. The location was ideal…just a few steps away and you’re right there on the beach! And to top it off, we were there when the waves were 6′ or so. PERFECT! To the people reading this review…this place isn’t for those that are taller than 5’8″. We were tripping out how low the ceiling was but with both of us being 5’6″, it was perfect for us. And the bed….super comfy! It was my fiances’ first time to Hawaii and it certainly won’t be his last. He’s already planning on us staying here again…this time for the whole week

This was such a cute beach rental. We could hear the waves, and 20 steps down a private little path took you to a secluded beautiful beach. The bed was SO comfortable, with clean soft sheets and nice fluffy pillows. The kitchenette was perfect. Everything was very clean and organized. You really park right in front of the door. The washer/dryer was very convenient. We already recommended the place to friends, and we are also coming back soon. Just a heads up, anyone that is taller that 5’5″ the shower may be a bit too small for you. My fiance is 6’1″ and he had to kneel in the shower to get under the shower head. Or just use the outdoor shower. Other than that it was great. And the owner was so friendly and pleasant to talk to. Perfect little place to get away from the crowds and tourists. Make sure you visit the farmers market on sunday morning in Haleiwa. Great food, and amazing people.

The owners couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. We rented the downstairs studio and it was just perfect. Immaculately clean and just as described, it had everything we needed–the owners really did think of everything! The bed was really comfortable, the location is amazing–you walk past a few trees and are on Sunset Beach. You can hear the waves from bed, and I didn’t notice any sounds from the main street (some reviewers caution against staying too close to the “highway” but it’s a really quiet 2-lane road, and to be on the beach, you’re mostly going to also be along the highway). There was a group staying upstairs and we didn’t notice any noise being downstairs–it felt thoroughly private. You can bike to Ted’s Bakery (don’t miss their croissant breakfast sandwiches and hot doughnuts!!!) and other places, and it’s a gorgeous short drive to Haliewa. I think it was choosing this rental that made our stay perfect–we can’t wait to return! Thanks, Amanda, Ken & Ron!!
